In this St-Henri project my work reflects upon the history of the neighbourhood and the visible mark that it has left behind. With their juxtapositions and combinations, the photographs are an invitation for the viewer to look into the vestiges of an era gone by.
Over the years, successful industries were forced to close or move and buildings left abandoned. These abandoned buildings have become the canvases for many graffiti artists and their work can be found spotted throughout the neighbourhood.
Decades later, the area is slowly becoming gentrified and is now sought after for its trendy lifestyle. It is this erratic quality and mixture of old and new that has given St. Henri its distinct flavour.
The interrelationship and contrast between economic hardship and affluence as reflected in the buildings is what gives this southwest borough of downtown Montreal its unique character.
